On the edge of the Sierra Mágina Natural Park, Cabra del Santo Cristo offers one of the most unique and striking landscapes in the province. Here, nature plays with contrasts: rugged, deeply eroded terrain, typical of badlands, blends with vast almond groves, centuries-old olive groves and small traditional fields, creating a scene of unexpected beauty that is rare in Jaén.
This corner of Mágina impresses with its sense of vastness and silence, inviting contemplation, wonder and nature photography. It is an ideal destination for those seeking distinctive, open and uncrowded settings, where aridity becomes beauty.
The municipality is divided into three main settlements: Cabra del Santo Cristo, Cabra Station and Huesa Station; and its territory combines olive and almond groves with pine and holm oak forests and heavily eroded arid slopes, forming a transitional landscape between the Sierra Mágina, the Sierra de Cazorla and the Guadiana Menor valley.
One of the key landmarks of the town’s cultural heritage is the Cerdá y Rico House Museum, a building that stands out for its architectural value and, above all, for housing an extraordinary collection of early 20th-century photographs. This collection, of enormous historical and ethnographic interest, offers visitors a glimpse into daily life in the rural world of Mágina: farm work, traditions, landscapes and people captured with a unique perspective that was ahead of its time. Next to it, the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Expectación, Sanctuary of the Santo Cristo de Burgos, has kept a deep tradition of devotion and pilgrimage alive since the 17th century.
For those who enjoy the great outdoors, it offers the perfect setting for walking, running or cycling amongst ravines, olive groves and eroded rock formations. The well-known Ruta del Puente de Tierra takes you deep into a landscape of gullies and riverbeds; the bridge over the Salado stream is impressive for its scale in such a rugged setting; and spots such as the thousand-year-old holm oak or the Nacimiento area invite you to stop and enjoy a peaceful day in contact with nature. For geology enthusiasts, the Cerro de Cabeza Montosa holds an exceptional secret: it is home to the only known examples of fossilised Jurassic guyots, ancient flat-topped volcanic mountains that were ‘frozen’ on dry land following the tectonic movements that raised the mountain ranges, turning this spot into a veritable open-air geological museum.
Let yourself be carried away by the landscape and discover Cabra del Santo Cristo at your own pace: walking amongst badlands and holm oaks, running along open tracks overlooking the Sierra, or ‘flying’ with your gaze from its natural balconies.
