In the Cuadros area, at the foot of the Sierra Mágina, lies one of the province’s most unique natural treasures: the Oleander Grove of the River Cuadros, considered one of the largest and most important on the Iberian Peninsula.
This gallery forest runs alongside the river’s course amidst cliffs and vertical folds of great geological interest. The oleanders, which here grow to exceptional tree-like heights, form a canopy that in spring and summer is covered in pink flowers, colouring the valley and creating a landscape of extraordinary beauty. Alongside them grow willows, fig trees and other species typical of riverbanks, favoured by the constant presence of water.
The trail, short but unforgettable, allows you to walk alongside the river whilst the sound of the water accompanies every step. In summer it becomes a cool refuge, ideal for enjoying the contrast between the limestone mountains and the lushness of the riverbed.
Along the route, the Cuadros Watchtower appears as an intermittent visual landmark, a reminder of these lands’ border history. Nearby are the Chapel of the Virgin of Cuadros and the well-known Cueva del Agua, where the river flows through natural cavities, forming spectacular formations shaped by the passage of time.
The route also links up with the Sendero de las Viñas, which leads to the Mirador del Torreón de Cuadros, enhancing the scenic experience of this narrow valley.
Please respect the river environment, stay on the marked path and take extra care during periods of high water.
