Journey to the time of the Iberians

The archaeological heritage left by the Iberian culture in Jaén is unique in the world, both for its singularity and its variety. The development of this culture between the 6th century B.C. and the 1st century B.C., has left in the province more than 545 inventoried sites, among which we can highlight the fortified cities of
The fortified cities of Cástulo and Puente Tablas, burial chambers such as the one at Toya, and ethnic sanctuaries such as the Cueva de los Muñecos or the one at La Lobera.

The archaeological heritage left by the Iberian culture in Jaén is unique in the world, both for its singularity and its variety.

The great journey we propose to the Time of the Iberians is a great project of the Diputación de Jaén, coordinated with the different town councils, and which is currently in full development. The visitor can contemplate one of the largest sculptural groups of Iberian stone statuary: that of Cerrillo Blanco de Porcuna and that of the Heroic Sanctuary of El Pajarillo de Huelma, exhibited in the Provincial Museum of Jaén. In the Archaeological Museum of Linares, we can travel through the history of Cástulo, one of the most important cities of antiquity, and in the Museum of Castellar, an impressive collection of Iberian votive offerings is on display. All of this, together with the new projects that are currently being carried out and which include new
museum spaces and the enhancement of archaeological sites such as Cerrillo Blanco in Porcuna.
