S.C.A. de la vid Santa Gertrudis

Calle Baeza. 23710 , Bailén How to get

Around half a century of life making good wine is home to the wineries of the Santa Getrudis de Bailén cooperative, a way of making wines endorsed with a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) but which was born taking advantage of the uniqueness of the vines in this area of ??the province of Jaén and bringing together more than 300 partners who stopped producing table grapes to believe in the common project of making good wine. This is how Santa Gertrudis was born, with great enthusiasm and with the progressive modernization of facilities that have led up to ten references with great brands that are always associated with the character of the stock of the grapes of this region. The effort of the cooperative, with its president José Chico, the winemaker Luis Hidalgo and the manager Jerónimo Bautista at the head of the cooperative members, has been rewarded with the appearance of some young wines called “Atardecer” (white, red and rosé), back in December 1990. An investment of more than 9 million, and thanks to a controlled fermentation, they get better quality wines that last longer and appear earlier on the market to be competitive.

What is the secret of Santa Getrudis wines? It is none other than its own aging warehouse in almost a hundred wooden barrels and, above all, that the grapes from which Bailén wines spring are found nowhere else in Spain other than here. "Molinera de Bailén", this is the name of a unique variety, named for this reason. You can look elsewhere but only in this cooperative will you be able to enjoy tasting the broth of this grape. In the 90s, the governing board of the cooperative promoted a policy of careful aesthetics in labeling, in bottling, in such a way that Santa Getrudis wines are not only liked for their taste but also for their careful presentation. Only with a glance in the glance it is easily distinguishable in the gourmet stores the stylized blue bottle of his white "María Bellido". Among these ambitious achievements, the governing board sets one in the medium term: to market its flagships, including the famous "Duque de Bailén", in the Asian market, essentially China. An excellent wine according to demanding palates and a wine with history, which carries its name, expressly granted by the Duke of Bailén.

In order to know with what care the wine of this cooperative is worked, that there is neither trap nor cardboard, the cooperative members allow guided visits to the cooperative's wineries, the same but improved ones that were inaugurated half a century ago with all the hopes of the world put on it.
