Travertinos y cascada de Chorro Gil |
The upper part of the Borosa riverbed has a stepped profile due to the development of pools and waterfalls in which travertine terraces are formed with spectacular botroidal calcite morphologies that were precipitated during the hottest and humid periods of the Quaternary.
Although travertines appear along the entire riverbed, the highest concentration is located in the sector located between the Salto del los Órganos and the Central Eléctrica. Its formation is due to the calcite precipitation caused by the degassing of the river waters that produces the turbulent regime of the waterfalls in the steepest areas. This precipitation occurs in areas of dense vegetation regrowing plant elements and producing subvertical sheets known as cascade facies.
