Our environment

Génave is a small municipality in the province of Jaén, located north of the Sierra de Segura region. The municipality is part of the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas Natural Park, the largest protected area in Spain, whose environmental characteristics have earned it the recognition of a Biosphere Reserve.

Our landscape is made up of a wide valley of asymmetric slopes and ridged reliefs crowned by the Picarzo, 1,296 m. Tall. The Herreros river and some streams such as Culebras and Cambrón run through our term.

Apart from the main population center, in the municipality of Génave there are also the villages of "La Almohadilla", "Las Parrillas", "Las Atalayas" (where there is an archaeological site of dinosaurs) and "La Venta del Pilar" better known as "The Sale of the Mushroom."

The main resource of this region is the production of high quality olive oil and Génave stands out for being a pioneer in the cultivation of organic olive groves. The dominant variety in the production area is Picual, constituting 97% of the olive groves in the area. The trees are very vigorous, with somewhat short branches and with a tendency to produce branching branches. Its fruits, from 2.5 to 3.5 grams, have an oil yield of 21 to 25%. It is a variety with good resistance to cryptogamic diseases, being very resistant to low temperatures.
