The Regional Network of Ole-tourist oil mills is a project promoted by the Association for Rural Development of the Sierra Sur de Jaén (ADSUR). It is a commitment to economic diversification taking advantage of the tourist potential that oil mills offer as a factor for sustainable development and as an element of territorial identity.
The Network is made up of nine Interpretation Centers in Olive Oil mills in the Sierra Sur de Jaén destined to the promotion of olive growing. Each Center has a different theme on various aspects related to olive growing, such as olive oil production systems and evolution throughout history, qualities of olive oil and uses, olive growing systems, analysis of the sector olive growing and olive oil marketing system, olive tree biology, olive varieties, by-products of the olive grove and its uses, olive farming heritage, traditions, types of olive oils and their quality and history of the olive tree and olive oil.
The Interpretation Centers have a space of about 85 square meters arranged for interpretive, educational and tourist use, equipped with state-of-the-art equipment such as a touch screen, and multi-touch, to enjoy the games and the multimedia application, interpretive panels or cannon 3D projection.
It is intended to take advantage of olive oil and olive groves, very abundant resources in the Region, such as tourist resources, to value the idle resources (facilities, machinery, documentation ...) of the oil mills, during the time that they are not in full campaign of collection and production of oil, promote knowledge about the different uses of the olive grove and olive oil, promote knowledge of the culture, traditions and customs related and diversify the regional tourist offer taking advantage of available resources such as oil mills, the olive grove and olive oil.
Olive growing will be promoted and disseminated in a didactic, dynamic and attractive way for a wide range of audiences, from personnel specialized in the subject, professionals in the olive sector, through people of school or training ages, to tourists or local public. Visitors will be able to connect intellectually and emotionally, through the interpretive script of the Network, to the fascinating world of cultural and ethnographic heritage that olive oil and olive groves make up around them.
The Regional Network of Ole-tourist oil mills can be visited through the tourist route that connects the nine Interpretation Centers with the main tourist attractions of the municipalities of the Sierra Sur de Jaén: Alcalá la Real, Alcaudete, Castillo de Locubín, Frailes , Fuensanta, Jamilena, Martos, Torredelcampo, Valdepeñas de Jaén and Los Villares can be explored under the enigmas of liquid gold and the sea of ??olive trees that make up the orography of this territory.
