The Museum of Úbeda was created as a Section of the Museum of Jaén according to a decree of 1972 (964/1972 of March 16) in order to "collect, conserve and exhibit in it as many works of artistic, archaeological and historical interest as an element educational and are exponents of the history and culture of that town ".
Information
The museum building is especially remarkable, since it is a Mudejar house, a beautiful 14th century building discovered during construction work. It is known as Casa Mudéjar and presents a repertoire of pieces from Palaeolithic sites in the province and objects from the Bronze Age excavated in the Alcázar neighborhood of the urban center of Úbeda. The pieces from the Roman period come from Úbeda, la Vieja (the Colonia Salaria founded by Augusto). We also find pieces from the Iberian site of Castellones de Ceal and Iberian votive offerings from the Sanctuary of Collado de los Jardines.
