Marchena

, Santiago Pontones

Marchena sits on a hillside next to a small valley. Narrow streets, stairs, ups and downs. Corners surrounded by silence and tranquility only broken by the sound of water. The number of orchards is surprising, the survival of which is explained by their remoteness from commercial populations. Nooks, windows and doors for heights of another era, whitewashed and dazzling alleys that contrast with the green of the forest that surrounds the village.

A spectacular climb in which we gain vertiginous height, elevation curves and large cliffs that act as natural viewpoints: this is what you can find in Marchena. You cannot miss the houses attached to the rock known as la Muela right in the village of the same name on the way to Marchena. We find again the olive grove, fruit trees and orchards next to holm oaks and pines.

In Marchena you can do three short trails PR-A 107 known as “Alquerías árabes”, the PR-A 101 that goes from Los Picachos to the Era del Tutubiero and the PR-A 102 known as Camino del Mirabete.
