The Huerta de San Lázaro or commonly known as Huerta del Sordo is an outstanding symbol of the battle of 1808, where both armies converge during the Battle of Bailén in 1808. Declared as a Site of Cultural Interest with the category of “Historic Site”, it is preserved in inside the old Ferris wheel that acted as a dividing line between the French and Spanish army during the battle.

That historic day will play an important role, since the heat together with the shortage of the liquid element for the French troops, will be a key factor in defeating the Gallic army, which in the last moments of the war would despair to reach the desired place where they could quench the unbearable thirst. Popular tradition tells that many of these soldiers threw themselves into the Noria de la Huerta de San Lázaro, the only nearby place with water, with the following phrase "Die here and resurrect in Paris."
