Granitos de La Puerta de Segura

, La Puerta de Segura

Granites from La Puerta de Segura

Outcrop of Paleozoic granites surrounded by prebetic (Triassic) materials with which it maintains a nonconformity relationship. Part of the town is built on granites, which force a meander in the Guadalimar river.

These are pinkish granites in outcrop, in which large crystals of quartz and feldspar can be distinguished, generally not very weathered. They constitute part of a paleorelieve recently exhumed after the erosion of the Triassic clays and sandstones that cover them regionally. It is the granite outcrop of the Central Iberian Zone of the southernmost Iberian Massif and further into the External Betic Zones.
