El Nacimiento
Singular places

Goat of the Holy Christ would not exist if this spring did not exist. With this categorical statement I intend to highlight its enormous value, since these waters have irrigated our fields for centuries, have provided the necessary energy to our mills, have gathered eager washerwomen along their journey, have brought their waters to watering holes, fountains and streets of the urban area and not only for watering, but also for housework, construction work, or watering the gardens so characteristic of the interior of our homes.
The landscape is determined by human perception and is the result of the interaction of the elements of nature and man, then human action has conditioned the transformation of the natural landscape and the inclusion of cultural elements that give it value, therefore it is necessary to preserve and enhance them. We are therefore facing a natural resource that has allowed not only subsistence but also economic activity since man arrived in these lands.
At present it is difficult to imagine what this spring and its immediate course would be like without that interaction by which the human being has created a sink, which is what we now see at the Nacimiento, or downstream at the Matías and Nacimiento mills, in La Balsa, El Charcón, the La Pileta and el Arroyo laundries, or the numerous pools and the network of ditches for irrigation of the place known as “el Sitio”. At some point these infrastructures had to be created and it is most likely that we will have to go back a long time before the repopulation of the Cabrilla site. Today we will only deal with the environment closest to the Birth, so what we find downstream of this stream that has spread so much life since time immemorial will be part of a new post in the future.
To try to imagine what those places were like not long ago, when they were still fulfilling the purpose for which they were created, we have, of course, the priceless photographic work of Arturo Cerdá and Rico, in such a way that we can see in some of their photos There is also a certain evolution, this is the case of the same spring in its natural state prior to its channeling, because not so long ago, until 1910, where today we see the seven pipes, there was only one rock from which the crystalline waters that stop the Sierra Cruzada flowed.
