Torres Oscuras

Calle las Torres, 19D. 23320, Torreperogil How to get

They are the most representative element of the urban complex of Torreperogil. They were part of the old castle-fortress built in the 13th century, between 1230 and 1240 and which gave rise to the town that was built after the battle of Las Navas de Tolosa. At the end of the 19th century there were four towers, but currently only two remain. One of them has a square plan, the interior is accessed through a lintel door. It has a single floor covered by a pointed vault and has loopholes on its walls. The other, known as the octagonal tower, has an octagonal plan, is built in rough ashlar and crowned with powerful footings to support the machicolations. To access its interior, it has a narrow pointed door and receives light through small loopholes windows. They have been rehabilitated in the last years of the 20th century as a Municipal Auditorium. The Torreón Ochavado and the Torreón Cuadrado are declared Historical Monuments. (BOE 06/26/1985).
