The current Royal Fair of San Mateo is a privilege of Carlos II to the city, dated in Madrid on March 16, 1688. It has always been celebrated around September 21, the feast of the saint, although it has varied throughout the years due to calendar reasons with other neighboring fairs and, lately, to take advantage of weekends and cause less damage in working life.
Although in its origins it had an exclusive agricultural and livestock character, with the passing of the centuries and the loss of importance of this activity, other tasks have been promoted, such as commerce, industry and entertainment in the fair facilities, based on children's attractions and adults, and in public, institutional and private booths. Cattle are still present, especially sports cavalry.
