ACCEDER

Puerto de la Nava

Routes

From Valdepeñas, follow the road in the direction of Jaén. After the gas station and a bridge, an asphalt lane starts on the right that goes up to Puerto de las Coberteras, the starting point of the excursion.

Program

In the same esplanade of the hill there are two lanes, the one on the left side ends in a few meters at the Cortijo Nuevo. Just behind a trough, the path to Puerto de la Nava begins. The first section of ascent runs under the vertical cliffs of the Sierra de La Pandera, through a dense forest of chaparras and Mediterranean scrub.

Further on, the trees give way to sparse and thorny vegetation. The height gained already allows you to enjoy splendid panoramic views over the Quiebrajano Reservoir and the mountains that surround it. Then the path is transformed into a beautiful cobbled path that twists through the steep and rough slope. It crosses three wire gates that limit the pastures and the municipalities. Finally, the path reaches a hillock where it ends abruptly after 50 minutes of walking.

The aggressiveness of the terrain is lost in this grassy area dominated by a stout oak tree; It is the ideal point to enjoy the panoramic views, now much more extensive.

To complete the route, it is possible to go to the same Port of La Nava in about twenty minutes. First it is necessary to descend to the bottom of a hollow, where a trough is located. Then you climb through a pine forest interspersed with the occasional old holm oak, until you reach the highest point of a clearing.
