Palacio de los Marqueses de Viana de Garcíez

, Bedmar y Garcíez

It is one of the great civil buildings of Renaissance style built in the province of Jaén. It was built by the heirs of the old lordship of the county of Garcíez, whose origin dates back to the Christian Conquest and remained as a heritage inherited until the 20th century by the Marquis of Viana Castromonte.

The building has been of great importance for the Garcíez community, both economically and socially, which transcends the history of the manor and its successive owners, as well as in the town's urban configuration.

Despite the numerous renovations that it has undergone over time, the property maintains the original structure of an Italian Renaissance palace. From the artistic point of view, it is a singular building in the panorama of 16th century architecture in the province. The six façades stand out, part of the arcaded galleries of the two courtyards, decorated with Renaissance motifs, medallions and heraldry, as well as the magnificent staircase. The palace is located in the central area of the historic center of Garcíez. Its main facade of marked horizontality and powerful volume stands out among the different adjoining buildings.
