Los Llanos (Higuera de Calatrava)
Singular places
, Higuera de Calatrava
Located next to the Torredonjimeno regional road (JV-2121) and on the border of the municipality of Higuera de Calatrava with Torredonjimeno we find this unique place.
Characterized by a hollow or plain closed to the four cardinal points with a narrow outlet that serves as a spillway to the well-known Los Llanos stream, which crosses it and runs from east to west looking for the Salado stream, where it will flow into the around the Alameda. Los Llanos is a fertile plain of approximately 50 hectares, surrounded by hills that shape a place with a hard-earned reputation for crude oil. And it is that this place usually collects the extreme temperatures of the municipality both in winter and in summer, frosts being very common in winter and extreme and torrid heat in summer afternoons. These factors together with the humidity that the soil supports makes it ideal for cereal production but not very suitable for extensive olive groves.
Inóspito, in the area there are only the ruins of the Cortijo de las Canteras, so called because it was built next to some old quarries; or the very transformed farmhouses of Cruz del Carrero and the nearby Corneta. Of the two that years ago were on the same plain, there are hardly any shadow traces of their ages left on the already cultivated land. A situation of depopulation that raptors and steppe birds have taken advantage of to appropriate this enclave, not being strange to see Montagu's harriers as well as owls, barn owls among others.
From the hills that surround it, there are wonderful panoramic views of the entire surroundings of the Llanos, the Llanos del Salado, Cerro Girón, La Hondonera, Matamujeres as well as all the surroundings of Higuera and even Porcuna and other points of the Marteña countryside.
