Iglesia Nuestra Señora de la Asunción

Plaza Ayuntamiento, 2. 23528, Lupión How to get

The origin of the parish church Nuestra Señora de la Asunción is linked to a medieval legend, the appearance of the Virgin of Lorite in a hamlet, expressing her desire to be honored with a temple.

The construction of the temple began in the 14th century. Its small dimensions reinforce the original medieval typology.

Its plant has three naves with greater width in the central one. The pillars that separate the naves have different floors and the arches that connect the central nave with the lateral ones are semi-circular, except in the Gothic area of ??the presbytery, where they are naturally pointed. A half-barrel vault covers the three sections of the central nave that is crossed by a cornice and defined by false transverse arches that rest on abutments.

The presbytery, built in the 14th century, is made of ashlars and ashlars, although partially and is covered with a vault of terceletes with diagonals and ligatures.

The nave's access to the presbytery is emphasized by a large pointed main arch with baquetones and Gothic capitals ornamented with tuberose.

In contrast to its contemporaneity are the sacristy that is located at the beginning of the left side, balanced on the opposite side, by a chapel. At the foot the choir stands on Solomonic columns, a parapet with wooden balusters and three carpal arches.
