Calle Encarnación. 23712, Jabalquinto How to get

If the Palacio de los Benavides is the most artistically significant of the civil cultural assets in contrast to the aesthetic poverty and the architectural simplicity of the City Hall, the religious representation is shown by the parish church of La Encarnación. Its proportions are discreet; Its construction began in the 16th century, but population growth from the last third of the 18th century required a long process of expansion that was carried out throughout the 19th century.

The original element is its rectangular nave covered by a half-barrel vault that rests on transverse arches that, in turn, discharge onto abutments. Much later is the presbytery, which is accessed by a central semicircular arch, and whose flat frontage receives light through clover-shaped windows. Externally, on the right side, at the feet, there is a belfry with two sections, the lower one with two openings with a semi-circular arch and the upper one with a single hollow of bells. However, the highlight of the parish is the doorway, Renaissance like the nave, between vertical stirrups. In the semicircular arch a small cartouche emphasizes the key and the spandrels contain triangular plates. The jambs, on the other hand, are smooth and flanked by fluted columns with Corinthian capitals. The entablature has a double architrave and, above it and the stone vases at the ends of the cornice, there is a striking medallion, on a parchment cartouche, with a relief of the seated Virgin with the Child on her knees and a cherub at the feet.
