GR-247 "Bosques del Sur"

Area recreativa Peña del Olivar. Carretera A-310. 23380, Siles

The first stage of the Bosques del Sur long-distance trail begins in the recreational area of La Peña del Olivar, located in the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas Natural Park. This enclave is accessed through from the town of Siles, taking the A-310 road, in the direction of Las Acebeas; after traveling about two kilometers we will find the Peña del Olivar. It is one of the best equipped public use facilities in the park that has tables, a fountain, children's games, a bar, a terrace, etc., and in summer even an exceptional natural bathing area.

The largest hiking route, in the largest natural area in Spain. The Bosques del Sur trail offers 478 marked kilometers, along 21 main stages and 11 derivations. In addition, it has 3 variants, composed of two sections each, which help to subdivide the route, and make a version adapted to our interests and the time available. Its route leads to the sources of the Guadalquivir and Segura rivers, entering through the mosaic of landscapes of this mountain range: high mountain peaks, castles, forests, rivers and waterfalls, traditional roads, plateaus, towns and villages still inhabited, historical sites, olive groves, orchards. A great way to discover the flight of the bearded vulture, the cleanest waters, the conversation with the transhumant shepherds, the way of living in the mountain villages ..., a collection of experiences and the authenticity of the most extensive mountain ranges of Andalusia. Most of the stages begin and end in places close to basic services: fountains, towns or villages, campsites and other accommodation, camping areas or road links. Other sections have only emergency shelters without services, built to provide these areas of the GR. Some stages pass through very remote places, without telephone coverage, often subjected to high mountain conditions that can leave us isolated (snow, wind and temperatures below zero in winter, or lack of water and permanent insolation in summer), so we must inform us about the conditions before starting the route; In addition to providing enough supplies. We will never leave the route, we will always follow the rules of use of the GR and the refuges, as well as the instructions of the natural park staff. Respect all the rules of the protected area while you walk along the path and use its equipment.
