Calle Argüelles, s/n. 23700, Linares How to get

The Plaza de Linares, known as the Santa Margarita arena, built of stone, brick, iron and wood, was built in the last third of the 19th century, specifically between 1865 and 1867, when it was inaugurated. This arena has one of the largest rings in the world and consists of three floors. It has witnessed the appearance of numerous Linar matadors and epic historical afternoons. This square is also offered as a space to hold concerts and unique events in the city center.

Information

The capacity of the square is 9,000 spectators. Circular in shape with an alley 1.30 meters high, it consists of three floors: laying, steps and gallery, to which four staircases lead, one at each access door to the enclosure. Among its dependencies it has a stables, corrals, ten pens, concierge, administration, bullfighting room, lockers, infirmary and slaughterhouse.

Full of history and legend, in which memorable evenings have been lived, the best right-handers and rejoneadores have tried their luck in its ring. But the one that continues to be recorded in the collective memory of the fans and for which the Linares arena is known worldwide, was for the death of Manuel Rodríguez Sánchez "Manolete" on August 29, 1947, by the miura called Islero. Next to the door of the groups there is a ceramic and marble plaque commemorating that tragic afternoon of the Royal Fair and Festivities of San Agustín.
