Castillo de la Laguna

, Génave

The Laguna tower, called by others Zarracotín, is located to the north, three kilometers from Génave, in the direction of Sierra Morena and Ciudad Real.

During the Islamic period it was a fundamental enclave in the forward position strategy both to emit signals of bonfires and smoke, and to house a garrison that could prevent troop movements and protect nearby towns from Christian attacks.

Before time irreversibly deteriorated it, this tower was an effective defensive element due to the severity of its construction and the solidity of its stones. With a rectangular floor plan, it was built in mud brick. In its vicinity you can still see the remains of other walls that could have been part of the wall that surrounded this tower. Its structure and construction technique is very similar to many other fortresses in the Sierra de Segura. In 1985 this property was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest.
