Calle Castillo, 11. 23360, La Puerta de Segura How to get

It belongs to the Almohad period, so it dates from the last third of the 11th century and the first half of the 12th. During the Middle Ages the municipality fulfilled strategic functions of interest since the Guadalimar was fundamental on the Levante route. The Muslims appreciated the importance of the castle, together with the dam and the adjoining bridge, for the control of this road. However, the castle deteriorated and its stones were used by its neighbors for new constructions. Thus, of the medieval fortress, only the remains of an old tower of the outer defensive belt are preserved, with a square plan and made of mud. It served as a prison for years and inside there was a church.
