Plaza Vázquez de Molina de Úbeda

Plaza de Vázquez Molina. 23400, Úbeda How to get

The Plaza Vázquez de Molina is one of the best examples of Renaissance urbanism that exist in Spain. This has been one of the reasons why this square, together with part of the Baeza monumental complex, were declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco on July 3, 2003. The square is configured as the union of several spaces that give it a trapezoidal set, it is an arrogant and self-affirming place whose perspectives, frames and prints are found on the corners of as many streets as they reach it. The reference idea, however, is established by the Sacred Chapel of El Salvador del Mundo, the largest civil mausoleum built in Spain. Formerly it was known as Llano de Santa María and as Paseo de Santa María in the 19th century. It is the ideal place to start a tourist itinerary through the monumental city of Úbeda.
