Located in the Palacio Niños de Don Gome, the Professor Sotomayor Archaeological Museum is an exciting cultural journey through the archeology and history of this municipality. It exhibits remarkable pieces from all the cultures (Iberian, Roman, Visigothic ...) that have made up our historical legacy.
Information
It was inaugurated in 1999, and is included in the Andalusian Register of Museums and Museum Collections of the Ministry of Culture of the Junta de Andalucía.
The palace belongs to a heritage complex listed as BIC. It was built by the Cárdenas-Valdivia lineages and the first documents that have been preserved date from 1570. The splendid tower-portal that characterizes it was built around 1620, it is known that it stood out over the defensive system of the nearby gate of the wall. In it, the typical Renaissance padding stands out, a broken curved pediment finished in volutes, in which one of the heraldic shields (Cárdenas) is inscribed. On both sides we find Atlántes, and on these, two other shields. Also noteworthy are the five lionesses on the upper cornice that carry five shields. The interior of the house is structured like the Italian Renaissance palaces, around a courtyard with four bays, dating from the 17th century. Finally, the stables stand out for a wall painting of a shield with two rampant lions and the family lineages.
