The Iglesia de la Vera Cruz was built adjacent to the old Vera Cruz hospital between 1575 and 1605, at the end of the 16th century and the beginning of the 17th. The façade is sober, adorned with a semicircular arch at the main door and a belfry like a bell tower. Floor plan with a single nave, divided into two sections covered with a groin vault and two chapels in each section. It houses the sculptural jewel of Villanueva del Arzobispo, El Cristo de la Vera Cruz, patron saint of the town, the work of the sculptor Mariano Benlliure, and the Virgen de la Encarnación by the image maker Domingo Sánchez Mesa.
