The Church was built by the Order of Calatrava during the first quarter of the 16th century and enlarged in the 18th. It combines the Gothic and late baroque architectural styles. The church occupies part of the site of the old Islamic fortress, whose materials were reused for its construction. The building stands out for its volume and the verticality of the tower. The additions of the eighteenth century focused on the construction of a new nave with the chapel and the dressing room of the Virgen de los Dolores.
Information
Externally, the temple offers a stepped volume due to the different heights of the naves, the buttresses of the facades and the presence of the bell tower. The main façade stands out from the complex due to the body of the tower attached to the wall and the portal, composed of a flared ogee arch with archivolts and columns with capitals made of fallen leaves.
On the north façade the 18th century portal opens, formed by a semicircular arch framed by pilasters, while on the side, a work from 1529, the door from the old Villalta palace or Casa de la Torre is located.
