Program

The festivities of San Marcos de Canena belong to the spring cycle and are deeply rooted in this municipality. In it the image of San Marcos is processed around the municipality of Canena to obtain the blessing of the fields. During the procession, as the image passes through the "Sala de la Caridad", a child will give it a specially kneaded and baked thread for this reason. Once the image of the patron has returned to the church, the donuts will be distributed in the Hall of Charity among those present.

For the conditioning of the Hall of Charity, a room in the house of the person who holds the position of prioste that year is decorated in the following way: the walls are lined with red cloth, in the corners altars are located where they are later arranged the donuts, consoles and mirrors are placed, and the rest of the room is decorated with cornucopias, old mother-of-pearl rosaries, manila shawls, golden doilies, etc. All these objects have been previously contributed by the neighbors for the decoration of the room.
