On the penultimate Sunday of September the Festival of the Youngsters is celebrated in Rus, which has its origin in an epidemic of bubonic plague that devastated the town, causing the death of most of the young people of the Jaen town. Tradition tells that, to combat the epidemic, the neighbors took out the Blessed Sacrament in procession and that, as a consequence of this action, the sick began to heal. To commemorate that prodigy, each year the Blessed Sacrament is processed as if it were Corpus Christi day and, at the same time, a carnival is celebrated, a really unusual event at this time of year, which recalls the masks under which the waiters hid his face so that death would not recognize them and thus be able to outwit it.
