Ermita del Santo Cristo de la Salud

23630, Villatorres How to get

Outside the town walls the hermitage of Santa Ana was built between the 16th and 17th centuries, with stones from the Iberian ruins of Maquiz, converted, at the end of the 19th century, into the hermitage of Santo Cristo de la Salud.

The popular veneration of the titular Christ is related to a deadly plague epidemic that devastated the town in 1833, until the neighbors agreed to take out the image of the Crucified in procession with which the epidemic remitted and the sick were healed. In thanksgiving the hermitage was remodeled, whose elements of interest are the portal with a semicircular ashlar arch and the belfry of a body, and the title of its owner was changed.
