Here you will find out about the typical ecosystems found in Andalusia and discover why certain species are on the brink of extinction, and gain first-hand knowledge of local projects to boost the numbers of species such as the bearded vulture, the Egyptian vulture and the Spanish algyroides. The centre is also the headquarters of the Gypaetus Foundation, a non-profit organisation dedicated to raising awareness of and protecting biodiversity in Andalusia, with a particular focus on the bearded vulture (the Latin name of which, Gypaetus barbatus, also lends itself to the name of the foundation).

The centre contains a permanent interactive exhibition on threatened Andalusian wildlife, along with a well-stocked library that has books on subjects such as ecology, biology and heritage conservation.

The building housing the centre was previously home to the town's butchers' shops, and is situated on a ledge above the River Cerezuelo, opening on to the well-known Plaza de Santa María. It is a splendid place from which to visit to the plaza and the rest of the old quarter of the town of Cazorla.

We recommend:

  • Visiting the Luxuriant Nature Centre, also situated in Plaza de Santa María, which offers an insight into the park’s great biological and environmental richness.
