The Villacarrillo Fair has experienced a boom in recent years, becoming one of the most important in the province of Jaén. The origin of this celebration dates back to the commercial and livestock fair that, in the Middle Ages, served for citizens to exchange products, being Fernando VII the one who gives it an official character. It is celebrated in honor of the patrons, the Santísimo Cristo de la Vera Cruz and Nuestra Señora del Rosario, from September 9 to 16, although the first big day of the fair is the 14. One of the main claims of the Fair and Festivities, and the most renowned within the program, are the bullfighting festivities. Especially the traditional Bull Fighting Bulls, which take place on September 9, 10, 11 and 12 from 9.30 am. These confinements, which date back to the 18th century, are extremely popular in the province. Its bullring, inaugurated in 1955, has seen and continues to see the leading figures of bullfighting pass by and enjoys great national prestige.
