Castillo de La Tercia

23746, Lahiguera How to get

In its day La higuera had a medieval settlement with Roman antecedents. A tower was built that changed from Arab to Christian owners and whose strategic importance increased until the Castillo de la Tercia was built with the primary function of spotting other stronger bastions such as those of Arjona, Andújar and Jaén.

It must have been used later as a warehouse and collection center by the Order of Calatrava when the city was incorporated into the Maestrazgo in the first third of the 15th century.
Today there is only a regular plank towered tower made of masonry known as Casa de la Tercia (13th century).
