Fuensanta de Martos Castillo de Locubín Sierra Sur

RECOMMENDATIONS

The best time to enjoy the route is spring and autumn, when the riverside forests offer their most colorful image; in summer it is better to avoid pedaling in the middle of the day. On the first Sunday of May the pilgrimage of Cristo de los Chircales is celebrated and its main festival from September 1 to 5. All the lanes used are perfectly passable by bicycle, only a few short slopes can stiffen the ride.

DESCRIPTION

In Fuensanta de Martos take the Castillo de Locubín road. First, the top of Puerto Bermejo is crowned, and then we descend to the stream of Regüelo and the farmhouses of the same name. After a series of slides, the route deviates to the left (km 9.7) after a small oil mill. The dirt track descends towards a ravine, crosses it and begins to climb a slope. When you reach a junction (km 11.7), you must continue climbing to the right. In the next one, it turns right again. The climb ends at a landing where another farmhouse is located. From there the lane will remain practically halfway up the slope, offering beautiful perspectives over the Rio Grande ravine. After having set aside an era that serves as a lookout point, it begins to lose height. Immediately the return lane is left to the right and finally merges into a paved road (km 16.1). There you go up to the left towards the Hermitage of Cristo de los Chircales, which is well worth a visit. Then you must go back until you turn off (km 18.2) along a lane that goes down to the place known as Junta de los Ríos, at the confluence of the river with the Corteses stream. It is worth getting off the bike and walking through the closed, or approaching the path that starts next to the old light factory, to the waterfall that hides the stream. The lane is close to the river, marked by lush vegetation that provides freshness to its banks. In 4 kilometers it ends at the Fuensanta de Martos road which is taken to the right. Innumerable rivers and streams are born in the Sierra de Alta Coloma. The largest of them is the Rio Grande, which downstream changes its name to the more virulent Víboras. Its impetuous waters have carved a beautiful river canyon where there are cascades, closed, rapids, jumps and pools that invite you to explore these wild and intimate places. In the coolness of the riverbank a lush gallery forest sits, poplars, ash trees, willows and wicker trees outline the river with discipline. In spring its welcoming fronds shade the pilgrims who come to pay homage to the Christ of the Chircales, in the hermitage of the same name.
