Ruta: Cambil-Mata Bejid-Centro Visitantes Parque Natural-Huelma-Arbuniel-Cambil

A route to discover landscapes in danger of extinction, this route crosses some of the most interesting forest masses of Sierra Mágina, but also the mountain cereal landscapes that are still hidden in this corner of Andalusia. It is a circular route that begins and ends in Cambil, so it can be done in both directions.

DESCRIPTION

In the first section, we pass through three points of interest: the Mata Bejid farmhouse, a set of regionalist-style buildings, the Natural Park Visitor Center and the grove with picnic area of ??the Fuensanta Sanctuary. Also in this first part of the route we will find conveniently signposted the beginnings of the most interesting trails in the massif: Puertos de Torres and Ascent to Pico Mágina. On the Ctra. A-324 we will circulate for 17 kms to Huelma. We recommend stopping at the Mata Bejid Visitor Center, which in addition to an interesting presentation on the environmental and cultural values ??of the Natural Park and an audiovisual, has a small shop and picnic area adapted for people with reduced mobility. The Visitor Center is open from Thursday to Sunday (check schedule by season).

You will continue to Huelma, where you can visit two Renaissance monuments that perfectly explain the grandeur of this population, of these mountains in the 16th century: the Church of the Immaculate Conception, the work of Andrés de Vandelvira, and the castle that watches over the town from above .

The second section of the route runs on horseback in the limits of the provinces of Granada and Jaén. From Huelma we will take the Ctra. JA-4204 for four kms. We will continue for 4 kms. more on the Ctra. GR-3100. These are the mountain cereal landscapes, increasingly reduced in size due to their low profitability, but which in not so distant times were the livelihood of the families in the area. The sensation that is perceived in the contemplation of these moors is of remoteness, of isolation ..., a rural world that is dying out.

Be careful because you will have to turn right onto Ctra. JA-3205, through which you will go down a very steep slope towards Arbuniel. Up to this point you have been 35 kms. of travel since you left Cambil. Arbuniel is known for its water spring that feeds the irrigation of the area, through a system of ditches that remains active, and that runs through this small population belonging to the municipality of Cambil. The spring is surrounded by a small park, a magnificent place to rest.

From Arbuniel, and in only 8 kms. from a road that crosses olive grove landscapes, we will arrive at Cambil by the Ctra. JA-3204. Cambil has sufficient restaurant services. Do not forget to walk through its urban area and surprise yourself with some baroque facades, such as the Hospital (18th century).
