Viewpoint of the river Jándula waterdam

Singular places

A beautiful landscape may be gazed from this spot, where a succession of rounded hills and meadow lands surround the river Jándula water-dam. The visual effect caused by the reflection of the landscape upon the dammed-up waters is like a beautiful illustration. The neatly-drawn line along the hill shores indicates how much the water level goes up during the rainy season. The water-dam is home to fish species such as the black-bass (Micropterus salmoides), the carp (Cyprinus carpio) and the barble (Barbus barbus). This is also the habitat of another endemic fish that lives only in the river Jándula and its tributaries, the Bogardilla (Squalius palaciosi). The best time of the year to visit this viewpoint is autumn, when the deer are in full rut and engage in an awesome sound spectacle known as 'berrea' or 'bellowing'. With a litle bit of luck, we may witness antler-to-antler fights between stags, in their strenuous instinctive journey towards reproduction.
