Near the Virgen de la Cabeza Sanctuary-Basilica, right on the track leading to Lugar Nuevo ('New Place'). The 'Old Camino' viewpoint is located right where landscape, history and tradition mingle with a life of their own. All year long, thousands of pilgrims walk up the track leading to the 'Old Camino' viewpoint, on their way to the Sanctuary-Basilica of the Virgen de la Cabeza, Queen and Lady of Sierra Morena. The place is worth visiting not just because of the views, but also because it symbolizes the culture, idiosyncrasy and religious fervor of the people. From the balcony, we can contemplate the refreshing beauty of the valley of the river Jándula (a tributary to the river Guadaquivir, into which if flows further down), flanked with a lush riverside forest graced by splendid elm trees. Across from the viewpoint stands the pine-tree-covered 'Cerro de Marquitos' ('Marquitos Hill') and, underneath us to the left, in the area called 'Lugar Nuevo' ('New Place'), we can see a forest nursery facility.
The vegetation is typically Mediterranean, an alternating mixture of oak wooland and stretches of stone and black pines (Pinus pinea and Pinus nigra).
