Iglesia de San Miguel

Calle Mariana Pineda. 23740, Andújar How to get

The important church of San Miguel de Andújar is located within the old medieval enclosure of the town, and is undoubtedly its oldest temple.

It is a church of Gothic origin, and its interior stands out among other important aspects: its high dimensions, the pointed arches and the sexpartite vaults with which its central nave is covered; as well as a profusely decorated coffered ceiling that is under the choir. Outside it presents a magnificent architectural ensemble where its robust tower stands out, with an upper body of octagonal bells over others with a square base and tapered section, topped by the classic corner stone vases and a pointed spire; the general body of the church made of stone of great chromatic beauty; and three doorways, the most interesting of which is the one located on its south façade, beautifully plateresque, dated in the year 1530, with three niches sheltered by a roof between buttresses and a small upper rose window.
