On January 17, the name day of San Antonio Abad, and in some municipalities on the eve of it, huge lights are raised in the streets and squares, in honor of the saint protector of fire and animals. The inhabitants of each town sing, dance and the youngest dare to jump on the embers of the bonfires. In the city of Jaén, there is a contest of long hair, dances and songs in circles, and fireworks, in which the citizens of each neighborhood strive to achieve the largest and most attractive bonfire in the capital. In addition, that same day and at night, a first-rate sporting event is held in the urban center of the city of Jaén, the International Urban Race “Noche de San Antón”, where the best mediofondistas in the world gather, gathering the attention of the large audience that awaits, torch in hand, the passage of the runners.
