Fiestas de la Virgen del Rosario

August 15th

Plaza de le Constitucion, s/n, Cambil, Jaén, Cambil - 23193

Program

Cambil celebrates its festivities in honor of the Virgen del Rosario, Patron Saint of the town between the days before and after August 15.
The local cattle fair took place on August 15.
However, and until the beginning of the 70s, the festivities took place in the month of October, coinciding with the festival of the Virgen del Rosario; but taking into account better weather conditions and the greater influx of emigrants, it was decided to move them to the month of August. The day chosen to celebrate the Fiesta Mayor de la Patrona was August 15, the day of the Assumption of the Virgin, for I know the day of the cattle fair, and because in 1950, our Patroness participated in the dogma of the Asunción, held in the capital of Jaén on November 1 of that year.
In 1599, only 28 years after the miracle of the Virgin in the Battle of Lepanto, Cambil had a brotherhood in honor of the Virgin in her invocation of the Rosary, being named patron of the town along with San Marcos, and as co-patron San Mateo , since the town was reconquered on the day of this evangelist.
This brotherhood of the Rosary, in the past, organized the rosaries of dawn every Sunday of October, which were celebrated before the "first mass". To call those rosaries of dawn, which were carried out on the street, this brotherhood together with that of Las Ánimas, sang "the awakenings of the dawn" what today is known as "La Tambora" and that have been relegated to the day of the Conception of the Virgin.
