With the arrival of September comes the end of summer, but what better way to say goodbye to it than to celebrate a great fair. Valdepeñas de Jaén is a land characterized throughout its history by a rich folklore, and proof of this are these Festivities in honor of the Santísimo Cristo de Chircales in which a large number of activities are held open to anyone who wants to participate.

The festivities begin on August 31 at night with the lighting of the lights and with a great celebration in the Municipal Booth where musical performances take place and finally the presentation of Miss and Míster Valdepeñas de Jaén.

This night of August 31 does not end there, it is one of the nights most awaited by many Valdepeñeros, the one known as "fiesta de las crumbs", where people gather in groups and spend the whole night in celebration.

Traditionally tonight they made crumbs, hence the name, extending this celebration until the next morning in which all the people ended up meeting in the Plaza de la Constitución, where two contests are held among all attendees, one for the most original shirt and another, of great tradition, the "crumbs" contest, which is given to the most "smutty" person.

During the night of September 30, crumbs are made in a pan, this is done over a fire and the smoke from it sticks to the pan, resulting in this soot that is later used to "smudge" the body for the contest. After this, all the assistants accompany the music bands and the "giants and big heads", in the parade touring the entire town in a curious celebration singing and dancing throughout the tour.
