Convento de Nuestra Señora de la Piedad

Calle Monjas Altas, 28. 23650, Torredonjimeno How to get

Founded by Don Jerónimo de Padilla y Pacheco around the year 1540, belonging to the Order of Santiago and with a triple function: to house a convent of Dominican nuns, to be a family pantheon for the founders and to serve as a school for marriageable maidens. The church has a single nave divided into three sections, with side chapels embedded in the wall. It has a double choir, on the feet and on the side of the presbytery. The altarpiece is Baroque from 1728. The nave is divided into three sections with starry Gothic vaults and separated by semi-circular arches, columns and capitals. The profusion of shells from Santiago and the general composition of late Gothic and Renaissance elements stand out as decorative elements. Inside the convent, it is worth highlighting the double-storey cloister, it cannot be visited as it is a cloistered convent.
