It is a recreational area 1.5 km. from the town center, and from which we will get magnificent views of the Sierra de Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas Natural Park.
Benatae is the smallest municipality in the Sierra de Segura and it is included in its entirety in the Natural Park of the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas, so it is a perfect place for lovers of tranquility and nature.
The Cerro de San Miguel is located 1.5 kilometers east of the urban area of ??Benatae, in the direction of Puente Honda.
Cerro de San Miguel is a recreational area with excellent views of the park. On one of its slopes there is a fountain that gives rise to its name, one of the many water sources that dot the municipality.
The recreational area has several tables and their corresponding benches, barbecues, the pillar and a large esplanade.
In the recreational area you can see the typical vegetation and fauna of the Natural Park and from where you can see excellent landscapes.
The hill is dominated by the black pine forest, under which grows a dense undergrowth with junipers, mastic, rockrose and kermes oak. Fox, wild boar and squirrel are very abundant, and it is possible to contemplate mountain goats on the summit. Among the birds of prey, the peregrine falcon, the short-toed eagle and the griffon vulture stand out.
From the Cerro de San Miguel you can take hiking trails, but not, in the recreational area we find the panel at the beginning of the trail (PR-A 179) to the summit of Peñalta (1,412 m.)
