Castillo de la Aragonesa

23770, Marmolejo How to get

The Castle of La Aragonesa is located in the area of La Aragonesa, near the town of San Julián, in the municipality of Marmolejo and close to the provincial border between Córdoba and Jaén.

During the Islamic domination, Marmolejo must have been a small village or farmhouse since it is barely mentioned in the chronicles, until the year 1311 when it is mentioned as a parish. It had a small castle, in which the hermitage of San Lorenzo was located. We only have news of this castle that in the 15th century it was in dispute between the Marquis of Villena and the Constable Miguel Lucas de Iranzo.

The best preserved medieval settlement in its area is the Aragonese castle, of Islamic origin, which after the conquest was used to transform it into a palatial residence.
