Hernán Perea Fields

Camino de Pontones Don Domingo. 23290, Santiago Pontones

In Santiago de la Espada we will take the A-317 road towards La Puebla de Don Fabrique (Granada). At 2.1 km, on the right, we will find the JF-7091 road that leads to La Matea. We will follow her to the village of Don Domingo. The forest track in the direction of Rambla Seca will guide us to the Campos de Hernán Perea.

The Campos de Hernán Perea make up the largest plateau in Spain. They have an average altitude between 1,600 and 1,700 meters and an area of more than five thousand hectares. This vast plateau represents one of the greatest and most original landscapes of the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas Natural Park, very different from all the others. The harsh climatic conditions have created a highly adapted vegetation of broom, hawthorn and common (creeping) juniper. Birds of prey majestically fly over this place throughout the year. The binoculars will be of great use to us to try to distinguish the golden eagle, the griffon vulture or… perhaps the lammergeier ?. The mouflon are very abundant. About 3.5 km. from the village of Don Domingo is the famous Pino Galapán, a 39-meter-high specimen of black pine well known in the area. A visit to this botanical "giant" is a must.
