Its town’s convenient location, alongside the N-322 road joining Bailén, Linares and Albacete, has made the town into an economic hub.
As its name suggests (the Bridge of Génave), the bridges over the Guadalimar river are a consistent feature that appear in many places across the township. The town lay along a key route towards Génave in Roman times, and the partially preserved Roman bridge and another from the 19th century are just some of the local sites worth seeing.
As in the neighbouring towns, a significant part of the local economy is based on agriculture and olives in particular. The town is home to a cooperative and a bottling company, "Olivar de Segura", producing olive oil with a designation of origin.
The countryside mainly consists of olive groves and mountain terrain.
The township includes the villages of El Tamaral and Peñolite.
Highlights of the township’s artistic heritage includes the Iglesia de San Isidro Labrador (Church of Saint Isidore the Labourer), the Puente Viejo (Old Bridge) and the Castle of Peñolite.
