Flowers

Flowers are a traditional sweet from Bélmez de la Moraleda and other areas of Jaén, especially linked to local festivities and family celebrations. Their characteristic shape and light, crispy texture make them one of those popular pastry recipes that preserve the charm of handmade tradition.

They are made with a simple batter of flour, egg and milk or water, flavoured with anise. To give them their shape, a hot mould is dipped into the batter and then fried in extra virgin olive oil with the Sierra Mágina Protected Designation of Origin until the flowers are golden and crispy.

Once fried, they are drained and sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon, resulting in a festive, aromatic sweet that is closely tied to the region’s gastronomic tradition.
