RECOMMENDATIONS

This first stage does not present any difficulty. You just have to save your strength for the ramps at the end. The ford of the Salado stream is reinforced with cement. Any time of the year is good to start the route, the olive festival that is celebrated in Martos on December 8 can be a good excuse.

DESCRIPTION

Next, Avenida de Los Olivares leads to the outskirts of the city, crosses the new ring road and continues straight ahead along an asphalt lane. In the next few kilometers you will shoot through the vast olive-growing countryside that surrounds Martos. The route, always signposted, leaves no room for doubt. After having left another two asphalt lanes to the left and having crossed the tracks of the old oil railway, a junction is reached (km 5.3). Straight on, you begin to descend towards the Salado stream, and you can see the impressive metallic structure of the old viaduct of the oil train that crosses the first ravine. The route will do it a little further along a cemented ford, after having traveled a stretch along the banks of the stream. Immediately there is no choice but to face a very steep slope, which softens as soon as you cross the railway platform again. At the next fork, turn left to join, shortly after, the road to Las Casillas (km 8.7). For little more than a kilometer you drive through the county that barely supports traffic. In the middle of a slope, take a dirt track to the right (km. 10), which after a short steep slope descends towards a quarry and immediately to the very foot of Víboras castle, located on a sharp rocky promontory. On the left the lane leads to Las Casillas bordering what in the future will be a reservoir. A wave of gentle hills subjected to strict olive grove geometry surrounds Martos. Beyond, these same hills rise, the ravines deepen and then the landscape becomes raging. The mountains of Caracolera, of moderate opulence, and Ahillos, with a sharper aspect, truncate the horizon to almost 1,500 meters. The stubborn olive trees brush against their peaks, while the oil route runs at their feet. The road first savors the sweetness of the Jiennese countryside, then ventures through the rugged Salado ravine and finally stops before the rugged mountain orographic wall.
