Fiestas de San Marcos
April 23 and 26
Program
Worthy of mention is the ritual with which Garcíez celebrates the festivities of its patron San Marcos, which last between April 23 and 26, and in which the saint is processed to the outskirts of town to bless the fields and bring water for the crops. During those days a stew of dry beans is prepared and the so-called donuts of San Marcos are made, which will be distributed among the neighbors after the procession. Until 1977, the year in which the Marquis of Viana sold the lands of the entire Garcíez term, it was he who paid for the dried beans, the oil and flour for the donuts, and the wood for the fire. These San Marcos festivities end on the 26th, when the popularly known as Señor de las Injurias is processed.
