Technical Description
Cordoba, starting point. Here it was the head of the independent state that constituted the Muslim Spain, since Abd al-Rahman I established in the eighth century an emirate governed by the Umayyad dynasty. In the 10th century, Abd al-Rahman III raised it to the category of caliphate, giving rise to unprecedented political and cultural splendor. Proof of this is the jewel of the Cordobese Mosque, declared a World Heritage Site. The welcoming atmosphere of Cordoba is extended in the ruins of the palatina city of Madinat al-Zahra.
The route then goes to Espejo, Castro del Río and Baena, historic populations with fornid fortresses and walls, also famous for their exquisite oils. The road runs through the reliefs of the Subbetics, where the legendary and beautiful villas of Zuheros and Luque are found, crowned by castles. Another more southern part of the route is directed towards the southern countryside of Córdoba: Fernán Núñez, Montemayor, Montilla and Aguilar de la Frontera, with its original political square.
